Ski Marmot Basin in Jasper

Marmot Basin is a stunning resort around three-and-a-half hours from Banff. It has all of the scenery and snow without the crowds. The authentic mountain town has friendly locals and a huge range of runs, which is ideal for improvers and serious skiers and riders alike. Even the drive up to Jasper is incredible as you travel along the Icefields Parkway - the most spectacular route in the Rockies.

Ski lessons

There is no reason why beginners or mixed ability groups wouldn't love a ski holiday in Canada. All the Rocky Mountain resorts have a fantastic mix of runs from beginner to expert, keeping the whole party happy. Families and beginners will also find excellent ski schools at all the resorts. Canadian instructors are renowned for being super-friendly and have the added benefit of being native English-speakers, so you won't have any language barriers.

Equipment hire

Whether you ski or snowboard, you'll be able to hire skis, poles, boots, boards and helmets with us. Save time and hassle by hiring ski and snowboard equipment ahead of time. Husky sledding

Banff and Jasper National Parks are the perfect for adventurous winter activities like dog-sledding. You can snuggle up warm in the sled or mush your own team of huskies across impressive frozen landscapes. Skim across the snow through sparkling forests and keep an eye out for wildlife, as the only noise will be the padding of paws on snow. Call or experts and we can add a husky sledding excursion onto your ski holiday.

Northern Lights

One incredible perk of skiing in the Rockies in winter is that you could spot the Northern Lights. The sight of those other-worldly greens and blues dancing in the sky is one that you will remember forever. From November to March is the best time to see the lights, which coincides with the ski season. You can look for the aurora yourself by heading out of town to somewhere with little light pollution or we can book a guided excursion for you.

Ice climbing

Ice climbing is an exhilarating activity to try out in the winter months. You'll need to be brave but you'll be rewarding with a fun and thrilling adventure - and a huge sense of achievement, of course! Maligne Canyon in Jasper National Park is one of the most stunning spots to try ice climbing as it is filled with frozen waterfalls. No experience is necessary on this expedition into the frozen world and all equipment will be provided. You'll soon be scaling a frozen waterfall and achieving things you never thought possible!

Fat biking

Did you know that you can cycle in the snow? This unusual activity is a really fun way to experience the stunning snow-covered landscapes of Banff and Jasper National Parks. The 'fat bikes' have extra-wide wheels to cope with the snowy ground. In Alberta, the locals embrace the winter weather and get outside to enjoy all the unique activities that only the snow allows. You should too!

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is a fantastic way to see the snowy scenery. Although the views from the slopes are fantastic, you'll be so busy zooming to the bottom that you may not have time to take them in! On a guided snowshoe excursion, you will be shown the best scenic routes through the Rocky Mountains National Parks. As snowshoeing is such a soft and silent activity, you'll also have great chances of spotting wildlife on your walk.

When to go

The SkiBig3 and Marmot Basin resorts offer a 6-month ski season from November to May. Resort dates are dependent on weather and snowfall. The latest opening and closing dates are listed below:

• Banff Sunshine - 9 November, 2018 to 20 May
• Lake Louise - 9 November to 5 May
• Mt. Norquay - 2 November to Mid-April
• Marmot Basin - 16 November to 3 May

Average snowfall

As the condition in the rockies is dry and cold, the snow is much lighter and drier than other Canadian ski resorts. These dry conditions make for fine fresh powder with every snowfall throughout the 6-month ski season.
