Let's explore with Canadian Affair's very own Dan Lopes, who recently embarked on a journey through this remarkable province.
Where did you travel on your trip to Saskatchewan?
I began my adventure in the city of Saskatoon, taking in the local culture and charm. From there, I headed south to the picturesque La Reata Ranch near Kyle, with a stop at the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, where I immersed myself in the rich Indigenous heritage of the area. My journey continued to the stunning Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, where I explored the quaint town of Maple Creek, discovering its unique character and friendly locals. I visited the historic town of Moose Jaw, renowned for its fascinating history and captivating attractions and then reached my final destination Regina, the Queen city and capital of the province.

What were the highlights or most memorable experiences of your trip?
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting Wanuskewin, which is a sacred site honouring the history and artwork of First Nations people, offering visitors a chance to gain a deeper understanding of their rich heritage.
Another highlight was visiting La Reata Ranch, a working cattle-guest ranch, where you can immerse yourself in the cowboy way of life while enjoying breathtaking scenery of rolling pastures.
Additionally, the Tunnels of Moose Jaw was a fascinating experience which takes you through a network of tunnels beneath the city, accessible via guided tours. I went on the Chicago Connection tour, which delves into the rumoured ties Al Capone had with Moose Jaw during Prohibition.

Did you discover any hidden gems or lesser-known spots that you would recommend?
Conglomerate Cliffs, located near Cypress Hills on the way to Fort Walsh, offers stunning views of the park, making it an ideal spot for a picnic. The RCMP Heritage Centre provides a comprehensive look at the history of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, from the North-West Mounted Police to today's Mounties. When visiting Cypress Hills, I would also recommend a trip to Fort Walsh National Historic Site to further explore the region's rich history.
