In the area

Jasper is a small town nestled in the heart of Jasper National Park, Canada’s largest Rockies national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is also the world’s second largest Dark Sky Preserve and the largest accessible Dark Sky Preserve and boasts the annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival each October. Since being awarded the status Jasper has also founded a 40-seat planetarium and nightly telescope tour.

If you are headed north from the towns of Banff and Lake Louise, you will also pass the Columbia Icefields & Athabasca Falls en route to Jasper. The Icefields Parkway stretches 232 kilometres from Banff National Park to Jasper National Park and is one of the most beautiful drives in the world featuring rocky mountain peaks, icefields, glaciers, and vast sweeping valleys. The stunning Spirit Island in the middle of the glacier fed Maligne Lake is only 47 kilometres away from Jasper and only accessible by boat. This stunning icon is well photographed too appearing in plenty of movies, artwork, and screensavers. Jasper also boasts Mount Robson the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies!
